What an experience to play for a group of accomplished pianists! The Steinway piano was one previously owned by Paul Wittgenstein. The Tenri Cultural Center always offers an intimate and satisfying acoustic. Many thanks to the Association (of which I am a member!) for putting this together. Final results: 57% for Prokofiev, 36% for Debussy and 7% undecided. (Two more concerts left this season; Prokofiev is one step closer to a season TIE!) Breaking it down by individual rounds: Round 1 - Debussy’s Suite Bergamasque easily favored over Prokofiev’s Lt Kije Suite 64%-36%. Round 2 - Debussy even more overwhelmingly favored with L’Isle Joyeuse over Prokofiev’s Sonata #3 71%-29% Round 3 - The variety of Prokofiev’s styles cinched it over Debussy’s “realism” 64%-36% Round 4 - Prokofiev’s Toccata an easy favorite over Debussy’s Reverie 64%-36% Both Men and Women preferred Prokofiev! Men Women There were no voters under 40 today! And there was a clear dichotomy between the under 60 and the over 60 crowds. This is, however, not a general trend in other Smackdowns, where results for these age groups have swung in the opposite direction, with no apparent reason. Fortunately, we’re not picking a President or an American Idol, where results are much more serious! Thanks for participating!
