Discovering Martha’s Vineyard was a true delight. The island is fascinating, the people we
met are so wonderful, and the Chamber Music Society is doing such important work. It was a huge delight and honor to meet David Stanwood and have the opportunity to work with him and to play a piano that he has prepped. The Old Whaling Church Steinway (1880’s!) was a true pleasure to play.
It was a close one for Chopin and Mendelssohn - in the sense that Chopin won more overall votes, but Mendelssohn won more rounds. This has happened in other Young Geniuses concerts, and I’m starting to formulate a theory of why this is happening! I will share later.
Rounds 1 and 3 went to Mendelssohn handily. Round 2 to Chopin handily. All gender and piano-playing categories went to Chopin overall, but Mendelssohn dominated in the under 40s.
